How we list firms
72 firms across 100 towns. Every listing says what was checked and what was not. Here is exactly what that means.
Where listings come from
Firms are found from the search results for decking and composite decking in each town, from manufacturers' installer schemes, and from the firms' own websites. A listing holds the firm's name, its website, the towns it says it covers, the boards and services it names, and any price it publishes. We never list a firm from a phone number alone, and we never invent one.
The weekly check
- Real and trading. An automated check fetches the firm's website every week and records whether it answered and what its title says. A firm whose site stops responding is taken off the town pages until it comes back. A site that blocks automated visitors is shown as "not yet checked", not as down.
- Fits decking in that town. The same check reads the firm's pages for a decking service, for composite boards, and for the names of the towns it covers. A firm shows as confirmed only when its own site describes a decking service. Until then it is shown as ranking for decking in that town, which is how it was found.
- What it says about itself. Approved-installer schemes (Millboard, Trex, Composite Prime, Ecodek and others), trade bodies and insurance are shown as the firm states them. They are marked as confirmed only when we have checked the scheme's or body's public register.
What we do not verify
Workmanship, guarantees, years trading, insurance limits and prices come from the firm's own site and are shown as stated. We have not inspected any firm's work, and we publish no reviews.
How firms are ordered
In each town: a sponsored firm, marked as such, then firms whose own site describes a decking service, then firms based in the town, then alphabetical order. Sponsorship buys position. It never changes what the checks say.
Corrections and removal
A firm can claim its listing to correct it, or ask for it to be taken down. Take-downs are done within seven days. If you are a customer and a listing looks wrong, email office@deckingdirectory.co.uk.
